how does one build an email list?

I have no idea how to build an email list. It is not for lack of asking. Does anyone know how to explain in easy instructions?
I need click here, click on there, hit that button, explanations. I just wish I was your age again with the technology we have now, I wouldn't have to ask for HELP!

you need to clarify and tell us where you want to create the email list, is it yahoo mail, GMAIL, outlook etc.
