Which Network transmission would be recommended for a building with solid brick walls?
Which network transmission standard would be useful in a situation where an old, heritage - listed building with solid stone walls needs to be networked? I need this for my exam tomorrow! Can anyone please help me out? Thanks in advance!
I think the only option is the old faithful Cat5.
Wireless is out of the question unless you have a heap of repeaters or wireless modems, throughout the house placed in line of sight with each other - but that would be pain to setup and costly for a home job.
Now, I am no expert on what you can or cannot do with a heritage listed house but I reckon you could run some cables through the roof cavities or under the floor?
You could run the cable around the walls of the house but unless you did some sort of cable casing job (or the old sticky tape job haha) that would be a bit messy and a trip hazard.

Copper (Cat5, 5e, 6) is fine for a one story building. If you’re talking about a multistory building, then I would suggest a fiber backbone running up the same duct as all the electrical wiring, then into a switch on each floor where it’s broken out into copper.
