Genealogy Etiquette. Can I write this guy an email or is it rude?

Filed under: email list database — admin @ 10:00 pm

I have been doing research and found info in the LDS database. A submitter is listed with full name and address.

More research turned up his email address posted on a genealogy website where he was asking for info on his family.

Can I send him an email or is that rude? The date on the email website is 1998, no date on LDS, so I have no idea if he is still working on genealogy.

One of the core values of any good genealogist is willingness to share information. I love being contacted about my research and never hesitate to get in touch with anyone who might have the answer to a question, especially if I already tried researching it by my own methods.

Where can I find a simple mailing list form. I just want them to enter 1 field (email) and submit?

Filed under: email list database — admin @ 10:39 am

I built a website for somebody and they want the most basic mailing list form. very simple. just 1 field for them to enter their email address. they press submit and it emails the address to their email address. Its that easy. no name, no database. it just emails them their email address. Iv been searching all over and cant find this. Can anybody point me in the right direction? All I see is multiple field forms. they don’t want to collect name. just the email address.

If you have multiple fields forms and can’t deal with these, you will not find what you want!
Editing a script that has a form and sends it to an email address is probably the simplest process on the web.
Just delete the fields you don’t want and rename one of them "email". Where is the problem???

National job database from all websites?

Filed under: email list database — admin @ 2:57 pm

I had the url to a siple site that listed all jobs from monster, newspapers and what not combined. It also let you sign up for email notifications for the job you are looking for (ie: finance). Anyone know what it is? Like a national listing database
still looking for the website database

There are quite a few sites out there that scrape ads from Monster, CareerBuilder, and other major and not-so-major job boards. Perhaps one of these will help you: oodle.com, indeed.com. I’m not sure about "oodle", but I know "indeed" will let you sign up for job alerts that will contact you based on your search terms.
