  3. if you are trying to do this for your personal use on your computer than excel is probably the way to go BUT if you want to use it via the internet than MySQL is great…it utilizes PHP and SQL to form a database

  5. MySQL is the only free database and is multi-platform.

Use any scripting language you want ASP, PHP VBA VBScript, Java, JSP etc to operate the database.

If you already have Office, then use Access - It comes built in with all the tools you are going to need.

  6. If you want one on your PC then there is one in Programs, Accessories.

If you want one on the Web, so you can see it from any computer, then all Mail suppliers have a Contact list which you can edit, add names, addresses, phone numbers etc.

I have a Yahoo mail account and when I log in there is a Contact tab for this.

  7. You want it free.
MSAccess, Excel is not free. Nor they are RDBMS.
    MySql is an Option.
Far better option is Apache Derby. Also known as JavaDB. It's RDBMS. Free. Platform independent, Runs on any OS. Only 2MB foot print. U can embed it to any application. Easy backup and recovery. And a lot more.

Get it from the link below.
    http://db.apache.org/derby/derby_downloads.html

For further help feel free to mail me.
