Twist Your List

My friends and I are planning to visit Edinburgh in September. Right now we are about to book our lodging and wait to buy airfare until later (when its hopefully cheaper). I am a member of several email lists that give notification of travel deals but they are mainly US based carriers.

I need sites that have low cost tickets from the US, preferrably CLT airport, to EDI. I don’t mind flying to another airport in the UK, if the combined transportation costs are cheaper than a connecting flight to EDI (example, flying into Glasgow or London and taking a cheaper flight or public transport to Edinburgh).

Lastly, with charges and fees, right now flights are about $1000 USD or 500£. We are looking for lower if possible. In January, British Air was offering $250 flights each way and something like that would be great.

You probably won’t find $250 each way on CLT-EDI in September. Winter transatlantic airfares are cheapest; summer most expensive. This should help: http://www.farecompare.com/fare-search/year.html?destination=EDI&s=r&t=r&departure=CLT&type=homepage2 .. it rates airfares so you know what’s historically a good fare on a route, so you can be ready to purchase when the price drops at or near that level again. http://www.bookingbuddy.com is also good.
